Lutein And Our Eye Health
I have recently noticed that more and more people are interested with lutein. I ask why. The answer is lutein can help improve their vision. I also have looked over some data and found that lutein can enhance people's vision, especially for the old people.
But what is lutein? I have found that it is an essential part of our retinas and is responsible for our central vision. Without it, our vision will be greatly declined. Or from another perspective, lutein is one of the carotenoids and can be found in many foods, like leafy vegetables.
Lutein is firmly related with an eye problem called Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), as we grow old. Lutein is responsible for our central vision, so people with AMD will have some blind spots in the eye center. Sufficient lutein in the eyes can prevent the occurrence of AMD or even cataracts.
Now that lutein is crucial for our vision, how much should we intake each day? Generally, one is suggested to intake a least 6mg everyday. However, one can also intake more if he is greatly insufficient. No case has ever proved that lutein can cause any side-effect.
Now that we should intake sufficient lutein each day, how can we get it? Some data has showed that lutein can be gained from foods, especially leafy vegetables. Of course, lutein can also be found in egg yolk, fruits, etc.
It is very hard for us to eat so many foods if we want to have sufficient lutein. Then, how to deal with the problem? Some lutein supplements are ideal alternatives. Only a few pills can ensure the sufficient amount of lutein.
In most cases, we can get other essential nutrients in lutein supplements. These nutrients can help maintain our eye health.
Zinc is often used together in lutein supplements, for this can prevent AMD in a more effective way.
I strongly suggest people who are lacking in lutein take some good lutein supplements, so as to make eyes brighter.
