The Benefits of Liquid Calcium Supplements - What They Do, How They Do it
If you have a bone problem then the benefits of liquid calcium supplements are what you need to supplement the calcium content of your diet, and also to provide the other elements that can promote the health of your bones and joints.
Liquid supplements in general have advantages of pills and capsules in that the active ingredients are much more easily absorbed by the body, and also cause fewer digestion problems. Take capsules for example. Normally made from gelatine, they are not vegetarian friendly, and can partially dissolve in the stomach to form a tough gluey mass that retards the assimilation of the supplement into the body.
It is well known that liquids are the best form of medicine or supplement, which is why so much effort and money has been expended over the years in developing soluble versions of simple medications such as aspirin, paracetamol and even protein supplements. If you have the choice between a solid or a liquid form of any particular substance that has to be ingested into the body to be effective, then the soluble version wins every time unless a form of prolonged release is necessary.
This is as true of bone supplements as it is of any other, and particularly true of supplements containing both calcium and glucosamine. Glucosamine is manufactured in small amounts during the normal biochemistry of your body, but decreases as you age. Glucosamine is a chemical that is used by your body for the manufacture of cartilage that protects the bones in your joint by providing a cushion between them. Without cartilage the bone ends of your joints would rapidly wear, a condition commonly known as osteoarthritis.
The main structural components of the cartilage in your body are substances known as glucosaminoglycans, and they are responsible for connective tissues such as tendons, ligaments, veins and arteries, heart valves, skin and also for bones, nails and eyes. Glucosamine does not act immediately, but is used as a precursor for the biochemical manufacture of the aminoglycan. Supplemental glucosamine is used medically as a treatment for osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, or brittle bone disease.
One of the major problems with Glucosamine is that chemically it is a large amino sugar molecule and, especially in joints, has to pass through the capillaries to reach the point at which it is required. Only a small proportion of molecules available actually get to the site where they are needed, and so the dosage is consequently larger than it normally would be. Doses of about 1500mg daily are normal. Studies have indicated that the liquid form is more easily absorbed, even though the molecular size is the same.
Glucosamine is also the only currently available treatment that medical experts believe might slow down the joint degeneration of osteoarthritis, and in conjunction with supplemental calcium, also of osteoporosis. A calcium supplement is useful if taken in conjunction of Vitamin D and magnesium, since these are needed to enable the calcium to be properly assimilated by the body in a form that can be used for the growth, maintenance and repair of bone tissue.
However, calcium and glucosamine are not the only substances that can help to reduce the symptoms and effects of bone conditions such as arthritis. Omega fatty acids can also help, particularly with rheumatoid arthritis, and a complete and well balanced supplement contain Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids can help to protect you not only from bone conditions, but also many others such as heart disease, skin problems, diabetes and some cancers.
Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids in a 1:1 ratio is ideal, although most Americans consume a diet too high in Omega 6, with consequent health risks. Omega 6 is good for you, but only in moderation relative to your Omega 3 intake. Omega 9 fatty acids can reduce the chances of you developing atherosclerosis, with a consequent reduction on the possibility of heart disease and strokes. It is a strong antioxidant and can help to reduce your cholesterol level and blood pressure, and together with Omega 3 and 6 reduce the risk of breast cancer.
When you consider all of these benefits of the Omega fatty acids, and also of calcium and Glucosamine supplements in association with Vitamin D and magnesium, any supplement containing all of these would of extreme benefit, not only to those suffering from arthritis and other bone conditions, but also of high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.
Such a supplement in liquid form would render it even more potent due the much faster and more efficient absorption by the body. The benefits of liquid calcium supplements would then be augmented with substances that not only improve the absorption and beneficial effects of the calcium, but also provide the additional benefits of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help to allay the painful effects of bone and joint conditions.
The size of a baby's head is often related to neurological disorders, such as autism - which affects 1 in 88 children. Now, researchers at Duke University Medical Center have identified genes responsible for head size at birth by inserting human genes into zebrafish. The study is published online in the journal Nature. Nicholas Katsanis, Ph.D., Jean and […]
Researchers at the Indiana University School of Medicine have developed a test that can predict how likely an individual is to develop schizophrenia. The scientists combined data from several different types of studies in order to identify and prioritize a group of genes most associated with the disease. Combined, these genes can generate a score, and determ […]
